It All Began in 1981! 

New Hampton residents Jim and Joyce Klunder built the now-famous Klunder’s Kafe in July 1981.  Their goal was, and remains the same, to serve the best “prepared-from-scratch” home-cooked food at reasonable prices.   It caught on.  They are still ‘cooking’ today!

Meals Prepared From Scratch 

This iconic New Hampton restaurant has a long and rich history. Local residents Jim and Joyce Klunder ensured that their original goal remained the same: to serve home-cooked, tasty food at reasonable prices. Did you know that the Kafe was originally located at a truck stop on Old Highway 63?  

With the help of their five kids and an outstanding staff, Klunder’s Kafe has become a landmark dining destination for locals and many travelers.

Fast-forward to today, and Klunder’s Kafe is a popular and jamming family business. Jimmy and Susie Klunder now manage the day-to-day operations of the Kafe, with over 75 employees serving the many happy clients who visit the Kafe daily!  

Welcome (Back) to New Hampton

In 2015, the Kafe moved its restaurant to a new location near Highway 63 and Highway 18.

Our goal was to be accessible to growing traveling diners. We are still popular with local residents and also serve thousands of visitors passing through.    

We can fit groups of all sizes; no reservations are required.

Our diner has a John Wayne Western theme (thanks to Jerry Hoffey), with unique and antiquated antiques covering the walls to add to our unique dining theme.
